Club
This term, I kept on doing my job in Video Club of No.29 high school. The work became even harder this year. I held a new students recruitment at the beginning of the term. I knew I am used to be a shy person. I prefer working by myself than working with too much people; especially speak in front of many people. However, I had to take my job. My leader ordered me to test the new students on taking photos and planning. It was my first time to give others oral tests, I felt a bit nervous to face the new students. Testing them on technology or skills was easy. However, It was impossible to test them on if they are responsible by asking them questions. So, I got confused with the selection among the new students. I found that it was hard to decide which one to choose without a clear standard. Everyone looked very good and suitable for the job; actually I know that most of them will be not qualified in a few months because of the pressure.
Another challenge for me was to plan a documentary about college entrance examination this term. I have been away from No.29 high school for one year, I could not know the common Chinese high school life as well as before. So, it became difficult for me to write a good plan about the graduating class. The leader of the club suggested me to watch some old documentaries to find some ideas for my project. However, I did not follow his suggestions because I wanted to find out what can I do for the topic without affect by others’ ideas. At last, I finished the plan and handed to him. I do not know if he will be happy with my ideas or not now, but I hope he would agree with me.
I wanted to be a director in the future, so I joined the video club and never give up even though I left the school. The club provided me a stage to try my ability on the media technology and skill, even some art skills sometimes. Also, teamwork is another important stuff for me to learn in the club. My opinion often disagrees others, luckily, most time I could convince them to accept my ideas. I know that in the future when I become a part of a real team, to convince others might be not so easy as I did now. So, good eloquence is another thing I should get when I work.
A movie speech
I took part in a speech on . A engineer from the Jiangsu TV Station came to our school at noon to give us a talk. She talked about how to make movies. She was a professional leader in Jiangsu TV Station who has a lot experiences in making videos, movies, and TV programs. She did not speak too much at the very beginning and she spend most of time letting us asking questions. The movie club members were very active and asked many questions about how to make a better movie. She told us that dividing a whole scene into some little scenes can help. Getting more than one point of shooting the film could make the film looks much more professional. The suitable music in the video is also another useful way to make the movie formally. The engineer was very fervent and willing to solve our problems. One boy mentioned that the difference between common software program and specialized software program would cause us could not make out an film like the real one. However, I thought that the software program is not the most major reason for if the movie is good or not. If
you work carefully on writing the play and shooting the film, the movie will become better.
traditional music concert
I went to a traditional music concert with my parents on 24th April 2009. The concert was held in Nanjing People’s Assembly Hall. It started at 19:30p.m and finished at around 21:30. There were tatal 22 melodies that night.
China took the charge of the concert. Actually this was my first time to listen to a concert in front of the performers. So, I felt some curious at the beginning. When I got into the Nanjing People’s Assembly Hall, all the musical instruments were all ready on the stage. There were Erhu, dulcimer, Pipa, bamboo flute, and many other traditional Chinese instruments. The conductor was an old man who was full of intense emotion, his performance won a lot of clapping.
I like the Pipa solo “Shimianmaifu” the best in the whole concert. The song described a war between Han Dynasty and Chu dynasty in 2000 years ago. The female exponent showed the audience an excellent performance.
I did not like the western music played by the Traditional Music Team. Using Chinese traditional musical instruments to play western opera sounded too strange for me. It did not make me feel comfortable.

Eating western food with parents
My parents and I ate a meal of western food at Henry’ home in Xinjinlun Department. Actually both my parents did not like any western food at all before they had the meal with me. After the meal, they changed much idea about western, even they spent 500 yuan to set up a card of Henry’ home to eat later!
We ordered 5 dishes totally. Three of them were principal food for each of us and we shared 2 dishes of foodstuffs together. During the eating process, I tried to sit very straight to eat, and I required dad and mum to eat like me at the very beginning. However, keeping the standard postures to eat for more than 30 minutes was so difficult! In addition, the food was so delicious that we were could not pay enough attention on our postures. We enjoyed too much and ignored some principles of having western food…
Father paid for the meal after we finishing eating, there was a discount that day so he did not pay too much.
Exhibition of Aitao
On the first floor, there were mostly artworks made of pottery. The guide told us, Japanese own the best technology of producing pottery now. Also, the probability of success of making out a pottery artwork is very low. So, the prizes of artworks were always high inexpertly. There were some glass artworks on the second floor. Their styles were totally different the famous glass artworks form Italy. However, they were very charming and attractive as well. Most of them looked like freehand artworks. The theme of third floor was jade. I considered this was the most amazing part of the exhibition. Every jade artworks were exquisite, their color and luster were very beautiful.
The other 2 floors were not as great as the other parts of the exhibition. There were some textiles and old fashion house furnishings.

My physical activities

I started playing the basketball in summertime since August 2008. I always play basketball in the early morning or evening with my parents. I practiced shooting at the basket mostly. My power of arms was weak at the beginning (around the end of August), I could only shoot at the basket in a very short distance and even my three points shooting could not touch the basket at all. During my 5 months practice, my skill of playing the basketball improved. The feeling of using my carpus got much better; I can use them nimbler than before. At the beginning, I always felt painful of my two arms and shoulders after playing the basketball, but I did not feel painful gradually when I have practiced playing the basketball since a month. The most encouraging thing was my hit probability of shooting increased a lot and I can try to get a three points now.
Playing badminton is a base physical activity for me, I like playing it with my parents in Olympic stadium. The most challenge for me to play badminton was hyposthenia; I could not play for the whole time so my mum or dad had to alternate me very often. Luckily, my strength grew some each time after my practicing. Dad said my skill of playing badminton had become better now.
Yoga was a brand-new physical activity for me, my mother ordered me to learn yoga because I got spondylodynia last year. I only have had yoga 4 lessons, but I have gotten a pleased feeling about yoga. It helped me spread my vertebration and the other parts my body. Yoga is not a violent sport and I felt relaxed and very comfortable after doing it. I am planning to get more yoga lessons the next term.
My club activities
The leader of volunteer club Kata led us to a community service organization, our job was to teach children there. The children were in poor families which their parents could not pay for their children to have extra study after school. Most children were lovely and well-behaved, I helped two primary school students with their English studying. One was in grade 3 and the littler one was in grade 2. I helped them write from memory. The biggest problem for me was not English, was the disturbing from other older boys. The other boys often stopped my teaching or tried to speak to the two quiet little boys. That was so crazy and I even could not stop them!
I was the major planner of Video Club of Nanjing Education High School, I have worked in this club for more than one year. Organizing and planning were the two biggest topic of my work. My job was designing, I really loved working here. However, in the term work asking others following the instructions or convincing others to believe my opinions were hard. Because of the stress from school and parents, some partners could not work for the club very well. They were not careful or responsible enough to finish tasks, this condition often caused our club’s strength did not match our ambitions. Luckily, we still achieved many interests. Because of our term work, our club has become the strongest club in Nanjing Education High School. Our TV program “Following the trail” got a gold award this term.
In conclusion, I did not join too many school clubs during my first two terms. I am planning to take part in more clubs in term three.

My volunteer work in BenQ Hospital

Connie Wang( Wangkangni) has did volunteer work in Nanjing BenQ Hospital in 21st,22nd and 23rd January 2009 from 8:00 am to 12:00 am each day, 12 hours totally.
I did volunteer work in BenQ Hospital in 21st, 22nd, 23rd January 2009 for 12 hours totally. It was not a very long time but I got much experience there.
I have sent an application form to be a volunteer of hospital to BenQ Hospital in September 2008, but the hospital did not reply to me or call me at all. In 19th January 2009, my mother advised me to make a phone call to hospital to ask about my volunteer work. I followed her instruction and the hospital ordered me to go there and plan my work. Mum was right, waiting is not a good way to strive for a job, be initiative is much better.
I started my formal volunteer work on 21st January 2009. I met some mates that day, but none of them is as young as me. They are mostly middle-aged people and someone who have retired at home. They treated as an adult not a student. For example, they called me “Xiao Wang”, no body call me Connie or my personal name.
Chinese New Year was coming, there were more less people went to hospital than the common time, and most patients have left and prepare for the new year. So, the other volunteers and I were not too busy that three days. My major job was to help people find their right ways and greet them in the lobby, helping elderly and disabled people also were two great parts of my duty. I realized the importance of be initiative during my work. When people come into the hospital, a few of them asked our volunteers the ways or what they need for help. I never ask people if they need some help at the on the first day of my work, I was just standing there and wait for anyone who need my support. I felt so bored on 21st because almost nobody come to me and ask for help, I stood here for 4 hours. It was just like military training! However, I changed my style on the next day, I asked everyone that came in the hospital gate. I spoke “What could I do for you?” to everybody. To my surprise, over 60% people needed my help! I began to know that actually most people need help, but they do not I can help them or they are not used to get help from volunteers. So, be initiative becomes very useful for volunteers, trying to speak to someone can help me help much more people.
Of course, not everyone was willing to volunteers. When I asked some people if they need help, they appeared that they had never heard my words and I am only the air. Even a few people spoke to me very impolitely. However, I felt happier than the first day because I can have something meaningful to do! I am not as bored as the beginning.
I helped a very old poor woman on the last day of my volunteer work ( 23rd January) with another volunteer. She was more than 80 years old, her right eye was cataract and her left almost could not see. She was too old to walk formally. The old woman need to the hemodialysis but none of her family members help her to the hospital! Only an old kind neighbor of hers sent her to the BenQ Hospital. The other volunteer and I supported her two arms and helped her walk very slowly to the therapeutic community. I felt sad about that old poor patient that morning.
In conclusion, I met a lot of different kinds of people and try to learn to get along with mates in BenQ Hospital. I experienced myself a lot here. I love my volunteer work and I will keep it on after the Spring Festival.

Having dinner with student from grade12
I went to Tacos with Angel Lu, Nancy He, Kevin Ye, Miki Ge on the 31st December. We had the last meal of 2008 together there.
The surroundings in Tacos is comfortable and pleased. Our five sat around a round table which is surrounded by dark beer buckets. We chose dishes from the menu in turn. I ordered a plate of pasta.
Angel, the student from 12 grade organized our dinner. She told us common dinner in Western is not very serious; people chose the way they prefer to eat. However, some big occasions are, such as weddings, etiquettes of eating are very important. There are different size of forks and knives, and it is complex to grasp all the skills about standard eating method.
We talk a lot during the dinner till almost 7:30p.m. Nancy and I asked Angel many questions of study methods (especially Social Studies, and planning). She told us that doing with homework and projects carefully every time is the most useful skill. We should try our best to finish them totally because common time is rather important.
Wuweishan's exhibition
ARTIST: ________________Wuweishan_______________
TITLE: _____________The blind musician-Abing__________________
DATE: _____________12-09__________________
The artwork was made of metal, it is highly possible that it is hollow inside. The whole sculpture is very strange modeling. His body totally presents a uncomfortable posture. Abing’s face is gaunt, there is a painful expression on his face. His face is inflexible, it seems that he is rather sad or dissatisfied with something. His round little sunglasses are hung on Abing’s face, and they are not firm atall so that the glasses are going to fall down. His hat is poor and full of folding, the shape of the hat seems to be a bit stubborn, just like the expression of the musician’s face. The patern of Abing’s body tilts hard. His left shoulder is much higher than his right shoulder, and the form of his clothes is very indistinct: the artist did not use clear lines to display Abing’s body, he only used some stripes to explain: Abing is so thin and so poor that it seems he will fall in wind. We can not see Abing’s hands under his long sleaves, and we even can not see his leg’s shapes. The only thing Wuweishan provides to us is Abing’s robe waves in wind. His body looks very rough, we even can find the skeleton inside his clothes.
The artwork gave me a cold feeling. When I stared at this sculpture, the word “pain” appeared on top of my mind. Almost every Chinese people know Abing was a famous poor blind musician during the old age of Qing Dynasty, his whole life was full of frustrations, and this artwork had showed his characteristics completely. The rough lines on Abing depicted his enduring all the hardships of exposure, the sculpture is not realistic, it is a freehand brushwork in traditional Chinese artwork. The artwork reminds me a feeling of old Chinese style of arts, and I associated Abing’s painful experiences. Provided me encouragement, they made me thought of of my terrible and sad memories, but it didi not make me sorrowful again, it just made me sigh with emotion.
I like the artwork, because of the “pain” it gave me.
The pain it gave me is not only suffering in Abing’s life, but also pains in our lives. Everyone in the true life bears different kinds of pains, they forbear themselves. However, nobody can avoid, no body cam change, what we can do is only accepet the actualities. Abing’s pain makes sympathetic responses, this artwork is so honest. This is why I love the pain feeling on Abing.
The special modeling on the artwork and the expression on his face make feel that way.
Other people might appreciate the artwork, because the sculpture is depth and it both old style and contemporary.
