TITLE: _____________The blind musician-Abing__________________
DATE: _____________12-09__________________
The artwork was made of metal, it is highly possible that it is hollow inside. The whole sculpture is very strange modeling. His body totally presents a uncomfortable posture. Abing’s face is gaunt, there is a painful expression on his face. His face is inflexible, it seems that he is rather sad or dissatisfied with something. His round little sunglasses are hung on Abing’s face, and they are not firm atall so that the glasses are going to fall down. His hat is poor and full of folding, the shape of the hat seems to be a bit stubborn, just like the expression of the musician’s face. The patern of Abing’s body tilts hard. His left shoulder is much higher than his right shoulder, and the form of his clothes is very indistinct: the artist did not use clear lines to display Abing’s body, he only used some stripes to explain: Abing is so thin and so poor that it seems he will fall in wind. We can not see Abing’s hands under his long sleaves, and we even can not see his leg’s shapes. The only thing Wuweishan provides to us is Abing’s robe waves in wind. His body looks very rough, we even can find the skeleton inside his clothes.
The artwork gave me a cold feeling. When I stared at this sculpture, the word “pain” appeared on top of my mind. Almost every Chinese people know Abing was a famous poor blind musician during the old age of Qing Dynasty, his whole life was full of frustrations, and this artwork had showed his characteristics completely. The rough lines on Abing depicted his enduring all the hardships of exposure, the sculpture is not realistic, it is a freehand brushwork in traditional Chinese artwork. The artwork reminds me a feeling of old Chinese style of arts, and I associated Abing’s painful experiences. Provided me encouragement, they made me thought of of my terrible and sad memories, but it didi not make me sorrowful again, it just made me sigh with emotion.
I like the artwork, because of the “pain” it gave me.
The pain it gave me is not only suffering in Abing’s life, but also pains in our lives. Everyone in the true life bears different kinds of pains, they forbear themselves. However, nobody can avoid, no body cam change, what we can do is only accepet the actualities. Abing’s pain makes sympathetic responses, this artwork is so honest. This is why I love the pain feeling on Abing.
The special modeling on the artwork and the expression on his face make feel that way.
Other people might appreciate the artwork, because the sculpture is depth and it both old style and contemporary.
