My physical activities

This is my physical activities log.

I was playing the badminton~~!

The major components of my physical activities in term 1 and 2 were basketball, badminton and yoga.
I started playing the basketball in summertime since August 2008. I always play basketball in the early morning or evening with my parents. I practiced shooting at the basket mostly. My power of arms was weak at the beginning (around the end of August), I could only shoot at the basket in a very short distance and even my three points shooting could not touch the basket at all. During my 5 months practice, my skill of playing the basketball improved. The feeling of using my carpus got much better; I can use them nimbler than before. At the beginning, I always felt painful of my two arms and shoulders after playing the basketball, but I did not feel painful gradually when I have practiced playing the basketball since a month. The most encouraging thing was my hit probability of shooting increased a lot and I can try to get a three points now.
Playing badminton is a base physical activity for me, I like playing it with my parents in Olympic stadium. The most challenge for me to play badminton was hyposthenia; I could not play for the whole time so my mum or dad had to alternate me very often. Luckily, my strength grew some each time after my practicing. Dad said my skill of playing badminton had become better now.
Yoga was a brand-new physical activity for me, my mother ordered me to learn yoga because I got spondylodynia last year. I only have had yoga 4 lessons, but I have gotten a pleased feeling about yoga. It helped me spread my vertebration and the other parts my body. Yoga is not a violent sport and I felt relaxed and very comfortable after doing it. I am planning to get more yoga lessons the next term.

My club activities

This is my verification of club activities.

I joined two clubs regularly during my first 2 terms, one was volunteer club and the other was Video Club Nanjing Education High School.
The leader of volunteer club Kata led us to a community service organization, our job was to teach children there. The children were in poor families which their parents could not pay for their children to have extra study after school. Most children were lovely and well-behaved, I helped two primary school students with their English studying. One was in grade 3 and the littler one was in grade 2. I helped them write from memory. The biggest problem for me was not English, was the disturbing from other older boys. The other boys often stopped my teaching or tried to speak to the two quiet little boys. That was so crazy and I even could not stop them!
I was the major planner of Video Club of Nanjing Education High School, I have worked in this club for more than one year. Organizing and planning were the two biggest topic of my work. My job was designing, I really loved working here. However, in the term work asking others following the instructions or convincing others to believe my opinions were hard. Because of the stress from school and parents, some partners could not work for the club very well. They were not careful or responsible enough to finish tasks, this condition often caused our club’s strength did not match our ambitions. Luckily, we still achieved many interests. Because of our term work, our club has become the strongest club in Nanjing Education High School. Our TV program “Following the trail” got a gold award this term.
In conclusion, I did not join too many school clubs during my first two terms. I am planning to take part in more clubs in term three.

Nanjing BenQ Hospital

My volunteer work in BenQ Hospital
I did volunteer work in BenQ Hospital in 21st, 22nd, 23rd January 2009 for 12 hours totally. It was not a very long time but I got much experience there.
I have sent an application form to be a volunteer of hospital to BenQ Hospital in September 2008, but the hospital did not reply to me or call me at all. In 19th January 2009, my mother advised me to make a phone call to hospital to ask about my volunteer work. I followed her instruction and the hospital ordered me to go there and plan my work. Mum was right, waiting is not a good way to strive for a job, be initiative is much better.
I started my formal volunteer work on 21st January 2009. I met some mates that day, but none of them is as young as me. They are mostly middle-aged people and someone who have retired at home. They treated as an adult not a student. For example, they called me “Xiao Wang”, no body call me Connie or my personal name.
Chinese New Year was coming, there were more less people went to hospital than the common time, and most patients have left and prepare for the new year. So, the other volunteers and I were not too busy that three days. My major job was to help people find their right ways and greet them in the lobby, helping elderly and disabled people also were two great parts of my duty. I realized the importance of be initiative during my work. When people come into the hospital, a few of them asked our volunteers the ways or what they need for help. I never ask people if they need some help at the on the first day of my work, I was just standing there and wait for anyone who need my support. I felt so bored on 21st because almost nobody come to me and ask for help, I stood here for 4 hours. It was just like military training! However, I changed my style on the next day, I asked everyone that came in the hospital gate. I spoke “What could I do for you?” to everybody. To my surprise, over 60% people needed my help! I began to know that actually most people need help, but they do not I can help them or they are not used to get help from volunteers. So, be initiative becomes very useful for volunteers, trying to speak to someone can help me help much more people.
Of course, not everyone was willing to volunteers. When I asked some people if they need help, they appeared that they had never heard my words and I am only the air. Even a few people spoke to me very impolitely. However, I felt happier than the first day because I can have something meaningful to do! I am not as bored as the beginning.
I helped a very old poor woman on the last day of my volunteer work ( 23rd January) with another volunteer. She was more than 80 years old, her right eye was cataract and her left almost could not see. She was too old to walk formally. The old woman need to the hemodialysis but none of her family members help her to the hospital! Only an old kind neighbor of hers sent her to the BenQ Hospital. The other volunteer and I supported her two arms and helped her walk very slowly to the therapeutic community. I felt sad about that old poor patient that morning.
In conclusion, I met a lot of different kinds of people and try to learn to get along with mates in BenQ Hospital. I experienced myself a lot here. I love my volunteer work and I will keep it on after the Spring Festival.
