On 11th December, we had a special class from the guest Mr. Zhao. He is a famous professor named Zhaobin from Nanjing Forestry University. He studies on landscapes for many years. He introduces some foundations about Suzhou landscape culture during his speech. All of us learnt some interesting knowledge on that day.
Firstly, Mr. Zhao told us what “landscape” is. He took apart the Chinese seal character “Yuan” (which means landscape or garden), and gave different meanings of each part of the seal character, when he put all the meanings together, the whole meaning of “Yuan” is “lands, lakes, trees, walls, and structures”. Those almost are the all parts of a landscape! This is very interesting and the ancient Chinese characters are really amazing.
Secondly, Mr. Zhao showed many photographs about Suzhou landscapes to us. These beautiful pictures stirred up our feelings, and showed the foundation form of Suzhou landscapes.
Third, he told us the excogitation of landscapes, and reason why Suzhou landscapes are so beautiful. He did not talk very deep-going about these stuff. Maybe because it is too difficult.
In conclusion, Mr. Zhao gave us much arouses about landscapes, even about traditional Chinese style.
